St. Peter's Crucifixion – Caravaggio

Saint Peter, Apostle of Jesus and First Pope, was martyred by crucifixion. Peter, out of respect for Christ, requested that he be crucified upside down, believing himself unworthy of the same death as the Savior. In this painting by Caravaggio, we see Saint Peter being hoisted up to die on his cross upside down.
