An angel appears to Pope Sergius in his sleep and tells him that Saint Lambert has been killed, and that the Pope must appoint Saint Hubert as bishop. This is a companion artwork to the Exhumation of St. Hubert. Both panels were part of one former altarpiece in the Chapel of Saint Hubert in Brussels, made by R. Van der Weyden.
