Copyrights & Image Use

Our image license is changing on November 1, 2026. Everything you purchase before November 1 keeps our current unlimited-use terms, permanently.

The art itself

Every painting in our collection is a public-domain work of sacred art. What we sell is our restored, high-resolution digital file of that work, and our license governs how you use the file.

Purchases through October 31, 2026

Once you buy and download a high-resolution image, you have unlimited personal and commercial use of it, with no further fees. These rights continue for those images even after the new license begins.

Purchases from November 1, 2026

Not sure which you need? Email sales@restoredtraditions.com and we'll answer quickly and plainly.

Full license text (effective November 1, 2026)

Effective for purchases made on or after November 1, 2026.

Purchases made before November 1, 2026 keep the unlimited-use terms they were sold under, permanently (see Section 1).

Restored Traditions ("we," "us") restores and digitizes public-domain works of Catholic sacred art. The paintings themselves belong to everyone. What you buy from us is a high-resolution digital file of our restoration, and this license sets out how you may use that file. By completing a purchase you agree to these terms.

1. Purchases before November 1, 2026 (grandfathered)

Every image purchased before November 1, 2026 remains licensed under the terms in effect when you bought it: unlimited personal and commercial use, with no further fees. Nothing in this license reduces those rights. Your order history is your record; if you ever need written confirmation for a publisher or printer, email sales@restoredtraditions.com and we will send it.

2. Standard License (included with every purchase)

Each file you purchase comes with a worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual Standard License to use it:

  • in your home, for prayer, devotion, and personal enjoyment, including printing it for yourself;
  • in parish, school, diocesan, and ministry materials: bulletins, programs, worship aids, classroom and catechetical materials, retreat and sacramental materials;
  • on websites, blogs, apps, e-newsletters, social media, video, and presentations;
  • in books, magazines, e-books, and other publications, and in advertising and marketing;
  • in any printed form, up to a combined total of 500,000 copies across all uses of that file.

3. Commercial License (paid upgrade)

A Commercial License is required, in addition to the Standard License, when:

  • the image is used on merchandise or products for sale where the artwork is a primary part of what the customer is buying — for example prints, posters, canvases, holy or prayer cards, greeting cards, calendars, apparel, mugs, and similar goods (whether sold or given away in quantity as a product);
  • the image is used in templates or designs offered for sale or free download for others to reuse;
  • printed reproductions will exceed 500,000 copies.

The Commercial License is priced at three times (3×) the purchase price of the file size you license, is purchased per image, and has no copy limit. It can be purchased at the time of your file purchase or added later for an image you already own. For multi-image or organization-wide licensing, contact sales@restoredtraditions.com.

4. What is never permitted

Under any license, you may not:

  • resell, sublicense, share, or redistribute the digital file itself (or a substantially similar copy), alone or as part of a stock library, image pack, collection, or download site;
  • use the file, or any copy of it, to train, fine-tune, or evaluate artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models, or include it in any dataset for that purpose;
  • use the image in a way that is pornographic, or that mocks or defames the Catholic faith or any person;
  • use our name, logo, or watermark to suggest that we endorse you or your product.

5. Ownership and credit

The underlying artworks are in the public domain. This license is a contract covering your use of the digital files we deliver; it does not claim copyright in any public-domain painting, and it does not limit anyone's rights in works they obtain elsewhere. Credit is appreciated but not required ("Image: Restored Traditions").

6. Our commitment and limits

To the best of our knowledge, each underlying artwork is in the public domain in the United States. Files are provided as-is. Our total liability for any claim relating to a file is limited to the amount you paid for it.

7. Questions

Email sales@restoredtraditions.com. If you are unsure whether your project needs a Commercial License, ask us — we will answer quickly and plainly.
