Martyrdom of Saint Peter Armengol – Carducho

This picture of Peter Armengol shows the saint being saved from death by hanging through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. St. Peter was a brother in the Order of Mercy in the thirteenth century. As portrayed in this artwork, the holy religious was once hung while offering himself as a hostage in exchange for a group of captured youths in Algeria. A fellow religious arrived at the scene of St. Peter's execution with redemption money and found his saintly brother still alive through the aid of Our Lady. St. Peter Armengol is patron of the conversion of youth. Artwork by Carducho
